Jorge Martín withdrew from Malaysian MotoGP qualifying because of pain from a broken wrist, saying he feared his title chances were over. Marc Márquez’s second place in the sprint stretched his championship lead to 19 points, with three grands prix left.
Jorge Martín withdrew from qualifying for the Malaysian MotoGP after trying to ride with a broken wrist, saying the pain was too great. The reigning 2024 world champion said he feared his chances of winning a second title were over, as championship leader Marc Márquez extended his advantage to 19 points.
Márquez finished second in Saturday’s sprint at Sepang, behind Pedro Acosta, widening the gap from 10 points to 19. Three grands prix remain after the Malaysian round.
Martín fractured his wrist in a crash during the Australian sprint the previous week. He had tried to take part in Malaysia but pulled out before qualifying.
“I don’t need to think about the championship any more. Maybe I can still win it, but for me it’s already lost. I’ll keep fighting until the end,” Martín said. He added that he was fighting for his team and the people around him as well as himself.
