Max Verstappen says he wants to build on two consecutive Grand Prix victories when Formula 1 arrives in Austin for the United States Grand Prix this weekend. The Red Bull driver’s wins in Malaysia and Singapore have put him in a strong run of form, but he says the priority is to keep scoring points for the constructors’ championship.
“The focus is on maintaining the momentum, making the most of our opportunities and collecting as many points as possible for the constructors’ championship,” Verstappen said in a Red Bull statement carried by ANP.
The four-time world champion has won eight races in the United States: four in Austin, two in Miami and two in Las Vegas. He also won last year’s race at the Circuit of the Americas. Verstappen said the track’s bumps, long corners and elevation changes made it important for Red Bull to find the right car set-up from the start of the weekend.
Austin is the 18th race of the season, with five more to follow. Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli leads team-mate George Russell by 102 points. Antonelli could mathematically secure his first world title in Austin, although the scenario requires him to win while Russell finishes ninth or lower.
