GPBeat reports that David Coulthard believes Verstappen’s influence encourages Red Bull to improve. Coulthard also said Red Bull won a race in the first season with its own engine.
David Coulthard says Max Verstappen’s influence at Red Bull reaches beyond his driving. Verstappen’s energy, passion and talent encourage people in the team to improve, and Coulthard says Red Bull is now delivering as a result.
Coulthard made the comments on the Up to Speed podcast while discussing Verstappen’s October 4 victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, held at the Sepang International Circuit. He also said Red Bull had given Verstappen a package much better than the one at the start of the 2026 season.
He described the win as a Red Bull Powertrains victory in partnership with Ford. Coulthard said Red Bull spent five years developing its first engine and won a race in the unit’s first season.
