After Mexico, Norris called for a higher 2027 limit, saying the cap blunts the slipstream; he also blamed McLaren's poor Saturday for his missed podium.

After Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix, Lando Norris called for Formula 1 to raise its top-speed limiter for 2027. The McLaren driver argued that it blunts the slipstream as an overtaking tool: when two cars are close in pace, the one behind can hit the same ceiling as the car ahead, leaving little speed advantage for a pass.

The 2026 rules feature active aerodynamics and a low-drag Straight Mode for long straights. Norris said engine-rule changes would not solve the issue: with the same power in 2027, he said, cars would still reach the same top speed in Straight Mode. His proposed fix is to raise the limiter itself.

He also argued that F1 cars should be able to go faster than motorbikes. But Norris did not make the limiter his full explanation for missing the podium: he said passing in Mexico required a much larger pace advantage and blamed McLaren's poor Saturday.
