After taking pole in rain-hit qualifying at Interlagos, Norris said he thought he had quickly worked out how to drive the car in the wet.
Lando Norris topped a rain-delayed São Paulo Grand Prix qualifying session at Interlagos. He said he thought he had quickly worked out how to drive the car in the wet. It was his first time driving it in wet conditions, he told Sky Sports F1.
Q1 was red-flagged after two and a half minutes, followed by an 82-minute delay as race control waited for conditions to ease. When qualifying resumed, Norris topped the times ahead of George Russell, with Kimi Antonelli third.
Russell's five-place penalty for taking a new internal combustion engine means Antonelli will start alongside Norris on the front row. Norris said the priority was to get two laps in early without mistakes. He also cited the wet and intermediate tyres and strong wind over the final laps, calling the session “a good day for learning” and saying he could take the experience into tomorrow.
