Mechanics for teams that could still score a podium had to stand by in the authorised personnel area in case positions changed in the final three laps. Crews for the top three cars had a separate two-lap deadline.
For the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix, the FIA required mechanics from teams that could potentially score a podium to stand by in the authorised personnel area in case positions changed during the final three laps. The procedure, dated 1 November 2026, set a separate deadline for mechanics assigned to the top three cars: they had to be in position no later than two laps before the finish.
The same deadline applied to mechanics for a driver crowned world champion outside the top three. After the chequered flag, the top three drivers were to stop at the exit of Turn 13; drivers from fourth place onward had to proceed directly to pit entry. A world champion crowned outside the top three was also required to stop at Turn 13.
Once the top three cars had stopped, the winning car was to be pushed towards the podium, while the second- and third-placed cars were to be pushed back in front of the FIA garage in the pit lane.
