Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff responded to those who had questioned the decision to give Kimi Antonelli an F1 seat by pointing to the Italian’s world title. Antonelli clinched the championship at the Mexico Grand Prix, becoming Formula 1’s youngest champion. Ninth place would have been enough, but he finished third.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the race, Wolff recalled the doubts about who Antonelli was and answered: “Well, this is Kimi Antonelli!”

Wolff also praised the maturity the 20-year-old had shown over the season. He said Antonelli remained completely calm after the race, adding that this was what made him special.
