The Ferrari driver says racing leaves no time to calculate his words or consider media coverage; he says he does not regret speaking out and will not apologise.

Lewis Hamilton has rejected a suggestion that his Formula 1 remarks are calculated. He said a race gives him no time to consider what the media will write about his words, citing a heart rate around 170 while driving at 200 miles an hour.

After the Mexico Grand Prix clash with Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc, Hamilton also faced criticism for publicly lobbying for a penalty greater than the five seconds Leclerc received. Leclerc was penalised for gaining a lasting advantage after cutting the track at Turn 4, with mitigation reducing the punishment from 10 seconds to five.

Hamilton acknowledged that drivers can sometimes regret what they say afterwards, but said he did not regret his remarks and would not apologise for speaking openly. He said he would not be silenced and that his team had not asked him to hold back. He also said Ferrari needed further talks to clarify its rules of engagement.
