Herta says each outing has made him more comfortable and better integrated with Cadillac's engineers as he pursues the final superlicence point needed to race in F1.

Colton Herta says he has felt more comfortable in Cadillac's Formula 1 car and better integrated with its engineering team with every outing this year, including at Barcelona, Budapest, COTA and Mexico City. He returns for first practice in Brazil this weekend aiming to earn the final superlicence point he needs to be eligible to race in F1.

The session will be Herta's sixth Friday practice outing of the season, in Sergio Perez's car. He said he wants to complete the run plan cleanly and give Perez and the engineers useful setup data for the weekend.

Cadillac team principal Marcin Budkowski said Herta's progress in the car had impressed him and that his feedback remained invaluable to the team's 2027 development programme.

Herta needs 40 points for an FIA superlicence. Cadillac believed he had reached that threshold in Mexico, but he remained one point short amid confusion over his previous IndyCar results. A breakdown in Monza had also left one of his practice sessions short of the 100km needed to earn a point; 24 laps at Interlagos will satisfy that distance. Earning the licence would keep Cadillac's 2027 options open: retaining Valtteri Bottas for a second year alongside Perez or giving Herta his F1 debut.
