Drivers must stay below 1:13.0 between the Safety Car lines on laps during and after qualifying and on reconnaissance laps when the pit exit is open for the race.
The FIA Formula 1 Race Director has instructed teams that drivers at the 2026 São Paulo Grand Prix must cover the distance between the Safety Car lines in less than 1:13.0. The limit applies on laps during and after qualifying and on reconnaissance laps when the pit exit is open for the race.
A note to all teams and officials dated 6 November 2026 says the rule is intended to prevent cars being driven unnecessarily slowly on those laps.
