After sealing the title with third place in Mexico City, Antonelli said he was no longer thinking about the standings and wanted to enjoy the remaining races.
Kimi Antonelli says he is trying to enjoy Formula 1 more now that he has secured the world title. He capped his first day of running at Interlagos as champion with the fastest time in FP2.
Antonelli clinched the Drivers’ Championship with third place in Mexico City the previous week. Asked after FP2 whether he felt more relaxed in the car, he said he was no longer thinking about the standings and wanted to enjoy the remaining rounds. “I’m trying to enjoy more,” he said.
Antonelli narrowly missed the top spot to Lando Norris in FP1, then went fastest in FP2 with a two-tenths advantage. He said the conditions were tricky, grip was low and race degradation seemed high. Mercedes had made a good step between sessions, he said, but still needed to work on the car for Saturday.
A 70% chance of precipitation was forecast for Saturday afternoon, and Antonelli said the weather remained uncertain. He expects a tight qualifying, with McLaren and Red Bull looking strong and Ferrari capable of finding extra pace.
