Emer Acton says McLaren managed Mexico City’s altitude alongside workload, travel fatigue and disrupted routines across Formula 1’s late-season run of three races.
McLaren treated Mexico City’s altitude as one part of the strain across Formula 1’s late-season triple-header, Emer Acton said ahead of the Grand Prix. Acton, the team’s head of physiotherapy and human performance, said McLaren considered the full sequence of races rather than treating each destination separately.
She listed accumulated workload, travel fatigue, disrupted body clocks, changing mealtimes and unfamiliar sleeping environments alongside the altitude.
Acton pointed to the route from the UK to Austin, then Mexico City—where the clocks move back an hour—and finally Brazil, which is three hours ahead of Mexico City.
