Kimi Antonelli has already been crowned and rain is forecast for São Paulo. If the showers arrive at the right time, Max Verstappen could get another chance to impress in the wet.

Max Verstappen could get another chance to impress in the wet at Interlagos, where rain is forecast for the São Paulo Grand Prix weekend. Kimi Antonelli has been crowned 2026 champion after the Mexican Grand Prix; preview writer Stefan Kerk argues that, with the title fight over, the frontrunners can afford to take more risks.

Kerk sees five to seven potential winners on paper. He describes Red Bull's RB22, Mercedes' W17 and Ferrari's SF-26 as almost level on lap time, and identifies the Senna S just after the start-finish line as a strong overtaking opportunity. The battle for the runner-up position is still open, but Kerk writes that its contenders appear to attach little importance to it.

Rain is another major variable. Interlagos is hit by heavy showers more often than average, Kerk notes, and the 2016 and 2024 races remain fresh in many Verstappen fans' minds because of his performances in difficult conditions. Forecasts he cites suggest 14 millimetres could fall on Saturday, with 6 millimetres expected on Sunday.

Whether Verstappen gets that opening depends on the timing of the rain. Kerk cautions that São Paulo's weather is unpredictable; rain arriving at a favourable moment could give the Dutchman another chance to show his skill on a wet track.
