Lawrence Barretto says Kimi Antonelli’s commanding United States Grand Prix victory moved the Italian to the brink of his first world title. He names Antonelli among his Austin winners.

Barretto says Mercedes did not appear to have a car capable of fighting for pole or victory in Friday practice, as the team worked to understand its upgraded 2026-spec car. Antonelli then claimed P1 in qualifying with a remarkable lap; Barretto judged the lap all the more impressive against that backdrop.
