Hamilton said he and Charles Leclerc had yet to discuss their Mexico battle by Thursday and needed to speak in São Paulo. He sees clear rules as vital if Ferrari is to challenge for the 2027 title.

Lewis Hamilton wants a face-to-face conversation with Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc at the São Paulo Grand Prix after their opening-lap battle in Mexico. Speaking on Thursday, Hamilton said the two had yet to discuss it.

Leclerc was back home following the birth of his first child, while team principal Fred Vasseur had also been in Europe at Ferrari’s factory.

Hamilton started on pole and finished second at the Mexico City Grand Prix. He believed a potential Ferrari one-two was lost after he and Leclerc went side by side on the opening lap. Leclerc was penalised for cutting the track; Hamilton dropped behind Max Verstappen and did not recover the position.

Hamilton also praised Ferrari’s recent work, saying its execution had improved over the previous four races after changes. He said his responsibility to the team had never wavered, and that he was glad the Mexico battle brought issues to light in 2026, when the championships were already lost, because Ferrari could learn from the experience.

Hamilton believes Ferrari needs a foundation and clear rules of engagement if it is to challenge for the title in 2027. He does not expect one meeting to settle everything, but said what Ferrari builds now will put it in the right position for 2027.
