Lawson has three seventh-place finishes in 2026 but says a decision at the season’s end would leave him with few options. Racing Bulls has three contenders for two 2027 seats.

Liam Lawson says he does not know what more he can do to keep his Racing Bulls seat. The team has yet to confirm whether it will retain him and team-mate Arvid Lindblad, with three contenders for two 2027 seats. Speaking ahead of the São Paulo Grand Prix, Lawson said he had been trying to show his best every weekend but did not know whether his recent results should secure his place.

Team principal Alan Permane has named Lawson, Lindblad and Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov as the three candidates. Lawson finished seventh in Bahrain, Singapore and Mexico in 2026. He has 83 points, sits ninth in the drivers’ standings and is 42 points ahead of Pierre Gasly; Racing Bulls is fifth in the constructors’ standings.

Lawson called Racing Bulls’ season strong and said it was pulling away from Alpine. He also regards his 2026 campaign as stronger than his earlier F1 stints. In Mexico, he was disqualified from qualifying, started from the pit lane and recovered to seventh; he said the team had been quick throughout the weekend.

Lawson said the end-of-season timing leaves him with few alternatives and that he wants to keep racing in F1. Most teams have already announced their 2027 line-ups, so if Racing Bulls replaces him he would likely need to consider a reserve role to remain in F1.
