Antonelli’s F1 title trophy due at FIA gala in Shanghai on December 12

Kimi Antonelli won the Formula 1 title in Mexico City, but the championship trophy was not handed over at the race. He received the standard third-place trophy after finishing behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. RacingNews365 says the title trophy and Antonelli’s formal crowning are due at the FIA’s annual prize-giving ceremony in Shanghai on December 12.

The ceremony brings together champions from across the FIA’s championships, including Formula 1, the World Endurance Championship, the World Rally Championship and karting. RacingNews365 says the F1 trophy is the event’s centrepiece, and that bringing the F1 and karting champions together carries a positive message for people starting out in motorsport.

The outlet adds that the FIA has been reluctant to change the arrangement: a technical challenge or possible disqualification could force it to reclaim a trophy already handed over.
