A wet qualifying session and tactical engine penalties have scrambled the Interlagos grid. Formula 1 contributor Matt Youson points to overtaking opportunities and frequent multi-stop races as reasons strategy could play a major role.

Formula 1 contributor Matt Youson expects strategy to play a major role in the São Paulo Grand Prix, where wet qualifying and tactical engine penalties have produced an unusual grid at Interlagos.

Lando Norris starts from pole at the circuit for the third year in a row, with Kimi Antonelli alongside him on the front row. Liam Lawson and Nico Hülkenberg line up on row two; Isack Hadjar and Ollie Bearman are on row three. Wet-weather pace lifted some drivers up the order, while Max Verstappen, George Russell and both Ferrari drivers elected to take tactical engine penalties.

Youson points to Interlagos’s overtaking opportunities and its frequent multi-stop races. He also describes the weather forecast as exciting and says the top four teams are very closely matched on performance.
