Juan Pablo Montoya has urged Ferrari to impose consequences on Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc after their first-lap battle in Mexico.

Former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has called on Ferrari to impose consequences on Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc after their first-lap battle at the Mexican Grand Prix, saying the team should have won.

Hamilton started from pole. As Leclerc tried to pass him, both Ferrari drivers ran wide. Leclerc emerged in the lead, while Hamilton lost a place to Max Verstappen. Leclerc received a five-second penalty for the incident, and Verstappen went on to win.

Speaking on F1 TV's post-race show, Montoya called for discussions and penalties. He said the drivers needed to know their actions would have consequences because Ferrari should have won.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur also called for respect from the drivers for the brand, sponsors and team staff. He said he planned to speak with Hamilton and Leclerc and found it hard to accept giving up a win in that way.
