Piastri passes Hamilton on penultimate lap after slow puncture in Singapore

After a slow puncture and a pit stop, Oscar Piastri closed rapidly on Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari and passed Hamilton at Turn 16 on the penultimate lap, according to McLaren’s post-race account.

Lando Norris had already passed Hamilton; Piastri’s move put both McLarens inside the top five, McLaren said.

McLaren also said Norris had offered to help Piastri chase Hamilton during the closing stages. Andrea Stella said he was pleased with what Norris said in the final laps of the race and expected to see more examples in future.
