Nico Rosberg says Fred Vasseur should set clear racing guidelines for Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc after their first-lap clash in Mexico City.
Ferrari had Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc first and second after the opening sequence of the Mexico City Grand Prix. Following their first-lap clash, 2016 F1 champion Nico Rosberg urged team principal Fred Vasseur to set clear rules for how the two race each other.
Speaking to Sky Sports F1, Rosberg said, referring to Hamilton, that the pair had not discussed clear racing guidelines before the start. He warned that without an agreement the drivers could try to settle disputes themselves on track.
Rosberg also criticised Leclerc’s earlier wheel-to-wheel racing, saying he had already gone too far in Turns 2 and 3 and had not held his line. Vasseur, for his part, said he regarded the incident as unacceptable and as showing a lack of respect for those who work for and represent Ferrari.
At Turn 4, Leclerc swept around Hamilton’s outside; both cars went off track, with Leclerc cutting across the grass and Hamilton losing momentum. Leclerc planned to give the position back, but Verstappen took second from Hamilton. Leclerc’s five-second penalty helped Verstappen take the lead during the pit-stop phase. Hamilton finished second and Leclerc fourth.
