Both races are scheduled for successive March weekends. Andrew Benson says the Saudi Grand Prix is likely to be cancelled if nothing changes by December 2026, while Malaysia is being discussed for the Bahrain round.
Formula 1’s 2027 season is scheduled to start in Bahrain on 12–14 March, with Saudi Arabia hosting the following weekend. In a report published on 3 November 2026, BBC F1 correspondent Andrew Benson said both races were at risk.
Benson said the Saudi Grand Prix could not go ahead under the situation then prevailing between Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni Houthi separatists, and was likely to be cancelled if nothing changed by December 2026.
He also said Bahrain was in jeopardy, pointing to the causeway linking Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. An Aramco facility at the Saudi end has been targeted by the Houthis, while the route reaches Bahrain close to the F1 circuit.
Malaysia is one option being discussed for the Bahrain race; the Bahrain Grand Prix was held there in October 2026.
