Vesti says his two years racing with Cadillac in IMSA have given the manufacturer a chance to assess him. Cadillac is believed to be weighing options for its second seat in 2027.
Fred Vesti has declared his interest in a Cadillac Formula 1 seat for 2027, telling Sky Sports F1 during the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend: “I have all my eyes on that seat, and it would be such a privilege to step into that.”
Vesti joined Mercedes' development programme in 2021 and has made several FP1 appearances over recent years, including replacing George Russell in Mexico City.
He races for Cadillac in the IMSA sports-car series in the United States and has taken three wins over the last two seasons. Vesti said Cadillac had two years to see what he could do in sports cars. He also said the IMSA group had won drivers', team and manufacturers' titles in 2026, a record he said showed the level of the programme.
Cadillac is believed to be weighing options for its second 2027 seat. Sergio Pérez is confirmed with the team through at least the end of 2027, while Valtteri Bottas's position is less certain. Colton Herta is also linked with the drive and is working to secure a super licence that would allow him to race in F1.
