A red Honda NSX Ayrton Senna once owned has sold for £871,250 at RM Sotheby’s The London Auction, more than 35 years after it was registered in Portugal. The sale price was approximately $1.169 million.
Senna, a three-time world champion, had access to an NSX for personal use under an agreement with Honda. The red car was registered in Portugal in March 1991, stored in Lisbon and delivered to him when he was in the country. He drove it to that year’s Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril.
Senna also provided feedback during the NSX’s development. The car later appeared in the 1992 documentary *Ayrton Senna: Racing Is in My Blood*. Photographs of Senna washing it himself helped give the NSX its “hosepipe car” nickname.
