FIA stewards imposed a 10-second post-race time penalty on Franco Colapinto after ruling that he had not made the required speed reduction through a single-yellow-flag sector during the Mexico City Grand Prix. The decision cites a breach of Article B1.8.4a of the FIA F1 Regulations and adds one penalty point, taking his total for the 12-month period to five.
Colapinto and the team presented telemetry and photographic evidence in support of their claim that he had complied. The stewards said their review of the telemetry and onboard camera did not satisfy them that he had slowed sufficiently in the single-yellow sector. They found no breach in the preceding double-yellow sector, citing doubt over whether he had received sufficient warning.
This is an update to GPBeat's earlier report on the stewards' summons involving Colapinto. The decision says competitors may appeal certain stewards' rulings within the applicable time limits, but does not state whether Colapinto or Alpine will appeal.
This is a new report following our earlier article.
The official decision distinguishes the single-yellow sector, for which it imposes a penalty, from the preceding double-yellow sector, where it finds no breach. This is a new ruling following the earlier summons report, which is linked through the previous-article reference.
