While a red flag held up wet Brazilian Grand Prix qualifying for almost 90 minutes, Max Verstappen turned to Premier League football. Asked by Viaplay how he had passed the wait, he laughed: “Watching football. Premier League.”
Among several matches, Nottingham Forest-Manchester City was the last he watched before returning to his car. Verstappen said the score was 3-1 and that he saw a goal just before climbing back in.
Verstappen already knew an engine-related grid penalty would leave him starting from the back of the grid for Sunday’s race. He said he had nothing to fight for in qualifying and was already thinking about Sunday. Even so, he finished Q1 third before climbing out of the car.
His summary of the day: “I’ve lost 12 hours of my life today that I’ll never get back.”
