Former F1 driver Karun Chandhok says Lawson could form a strong pairing with Sergio Perez at Cadillac if he becomes available; Racing Bulls has yet to name its 2027 drivers.

Former F1 driver Karun Chandhok has urged Cadillac to consider Liam Lawson for a 2027 seat alongside Sergio Perez, saying the pairing could be strong if the New Zealander becomes available.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1, Chandhok framed it as a hypothetical, asking whether Cadillac should choose Lawson over Colton Herta if Lawson became a free agent. He acknowledged the commercial and marketing case for an American driver. He said he was hearing more and more that Lawson's Racing Bulls seat was under threat, calling that one of the most unjust things he had heard this season.

Racing Bulls has yet to announce either of its 2027 drivers. Arvid Lindblad is broadly expected to retain one seat, leaving Lawson and Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov in contention for the other. Lawson is ninth in the championship with 83 points over the first 19 rounds, including 14 from his three-race Red Bull cameo.

Bernie Collins also backed the case for Lawson, arguing that his knowledge of the Racing Bulls car and engine, together with his Red Bull experience, could give Cadillac useful information for developing its car.
