Nico Hülkenberg said he apologised to Oliver Bearman and Haas after their Mexico City Grand Prix collision forced Bearman out of the race. Hülkenberg accepted responsibility; a 10-second penalty left him 16th.

After the Mexico City Grand Prix, Nico Hülkenberg went straight to Oliver Bearman and the Haas team once his media duties were over to apologise for the collision that ended Bearman's race. Hülkenberg said the contact was not intentional and that he had misjudged it, accepting responsibility.

The clash came on the first lap after the Lap 47 restart, as the field bunched up. Hülkenberg said he was braking into Turn 4 while racing another car when he lost downforce in the wake of the pack and experienced a slight rear lock, leaving him unable to stop in time. Bearman spun, sustained damage and retired.

The pair had been fighting just outside the top ten. A 10-second penalty for the collision dropped Hülkenberg from a potential points finish to 16th in the final classification.
