Third place in Mexico made the 20-year-old Formula 1’s youngest champion. Antonelli said he was still processing the achievement and thanked Mercedes and his family.
Kimi Antonelli said he was still trying to process becoming Formula 1’s youngest world champion after finishing third at the Mexico City Grand Prix. At 20, he beat Sebastian Vettel’s previous record by more than three years, ending Italy’s 73-year wait for its next F1 champion.
He said the moment would stay with him forever. Antonelli thanked Mercedes and his family, and described himself as speechless as he tried to take in what had happened.
After 71 laps, Antonelli shared the podium with Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. He said sharing it with them was incredible and looked forward to more battles. He had felt a little more tense that weekend, he said, but they could now enjoy the rest of the season.
