Fenway Sports Group has been linked to a possible purchase after reports that TWG Global is seeking to sell part of its majority holding in the F1 team.
Fenway Sports Group, the owner of Liverpool FC, has been named among potential buyers of a stake in Cadillac’s Formula 1 team. Mark Walter’s TWG Global is reportedly looking to sell part of its majority holding.
Autosport cites a Sportico report that puts the value of the team at about $3 billion and a Washington Post report naming FSG as one of several interested parties. The group also owns the Boston Red Sox and already has a motorsport stake: 50% of NASCAR’s RFK Racing.
TWG Motorsports, a subsidiary of Walter’s TWG Global, is the F1 team’s majority owner. General Motors holds an undisclosed minority stake and is developing future power units. TWG Global previously dismissed suggestions it could sell part of the team, while GM representatives declined to comment on the latest reports.
Separately, Autosport reports that the US Department of Justice is investigating whether Walter’s insurance companies improperly invested policyholders’ funds in affiliated businesses. About $20 billion in loans and investments is reportedly involved, with allegations that the transactions were not adequately disclosed. Some of the funds were allegedly used to expand Walter’s sports interests. TWG Global has consistently denied wrongdoing.
Cadillac joined F1 in 2026 as the series’ 11th team. TWG and GM paid a $450 million anti-dilution fee for its entry and have reportedly put more than $1 billion in resources into building the team.
