Cadillac has yet to confirm Bottas for 2027 or commit to the option in his contract, though he says the team has told him it wants no change. He believes Colton Herta’s Super Licence effort may be for future flexibility rather than specifically for 2027.
Ahead of the São Paulo Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas said he expected his future with Cadillac to be all right, although the team has yet to confirm him for 2027. Asked whether he would race in 2027, he replied, “In my head, it should be okay,” adding that he had signed up for the long term and had heard nothing to suggest otherwise.
Cadillac has yet to commit to exercising the option in Bottas’s contract that would keep him in the seat in 2027. Bottas said the team had told him it did not want to change anything.
Speculation has linked Cadillac reserve driver and IndyCar winner Colton Herta with Bottas’s seat. Herta is 19th in the Formula 2 standings but has impressed the team in Free Practice 1 (FP1). He has made five FP1 appearances for Cadillac while pursuing the Super Licence points needed for a possible F1 seat; his sixth is due in São Paulo, where he is set to take Sergio Perez’s place in FP1.
Bottas said he believed Cadillac wanted Herta to have the Super Licence as a precaution, not necessarily for 2027. He added that this was what he hoped.
