Sergio Perez says he has no say in choosing his Cadillac teammate for 2027 and does not want one, leaving the decision to team boss Marcin Budkowski.

Sergio Perez says he has no say in choosing his Cadillac teammate for 2027—and does not want one. Team boss Marcin Budkowski will assess the data and information before deciding what he believes is best for the team's future, Perez said.

Cadillac announced ahead of last weekend's Mexico City Grand Prix that it had secured Perez's services through at least the end of 2029. The report says there is believed to be further doubt over Valtteri Bottas's seat, despite a deal described as multi-year when he joined.

Cadillac is pushing for Colton Herta to obtain the super licence required to race in F1. Herta needs 24 laps in FP1 in Brazil this weekend to log the mileage for his 40th point.

Perez praised Herta's contribution, saying he brings useful feedback and information to the team. He said FP1 outings make it difficult to judge a driver's speed, but believes Herta's increased time in the car and simulator is helping Cadillac see more of his pace.

Perez also said he and Bottas are working well together, described the Finn as unlucky in a few races and called the choice difficult. Cadillac needs to evolve quickly, he said, with the next three or four months crucial to its preparations.
