Toto Wolff said Mercedes’ particularly strong start to the season ultimately carried it to the constructors’ title. Fourth for George Russell and fifth for Kimi Antonelli were enough to seal it in São Paulo.
Mercedes secured the 2026 constructors’ championship in São Paulo with George Russell fourth and Kimi Antonelli fifth. The result was not quite what the team wanted, but those finishes were enough to clinch the title.
After the race, team principal Toto Wolff credited Mercedes’ particularly strong start to the season with ultimately carrying the team over the line. He said recent races had been challenging and the São Paulo race itself had been difficult, but that he was extremely proud of the organisation.
The 2026 crown is Mercedes’ first constructors’ title since 2021 and its ninth in Formula 1, putting the team level with Williams. Wolff said he had never thought it possible for Mercedes to match Williams’ tally.
