Carlos Slim Domit believes Sergio Pérez can stay in Formula 1 for a long time, but says the decision rests with Pérez.

Before Sergio Pérez’s home race in Mexico, his friend and backer Carlos Slim Domit said the Cadillac driver could continue in Formula 1 for a long time, but that the decision was ultimately Pérez’s. Slim Domit believes Pérez has the physical and mental capacity to do so; he also said Pérez wants to stay close to his family and is fully focused when he is with the team.

Cadillac announced shortly before the race that Pérez would remain with the team at least through the 2029 season; by then, he will be 39. Pérez was due to reach his 300th Grand Prix with his start in Mexico City, a milestone that would make him the seventh driver ever to reach it.
