Rafael Camara has not decided whether to give up his F2 title campaign after his Haas call-up for São Paulo; he says he will discuss his future after the weekend.
Rafael Camara has not decided whether to give up his Formula 2 title campaign after Haas called him up for his São Paulo Grand Prix debut. He leads Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov by seven points with two rounds remaining and says he will discuss his plans for the future after the weekend.
The remaining F2 rounds are in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Haas did not name Oliver Bearman's partner for Las Vegas, Qatar or Abu Dhabi in its announcement. If Camara is given the Haas seat for the final three F1 races after São Paulo, the clashes in Qatar and Abu Dhabi would make running both series difficult; he would likely have to sacrifice the F2 title.
Gabriel Bortoleto, Camara's good friend and the 2024 F2 champion, urged him to focus on winning the title. Bortoleto said his own situation was not identical, but that he had also signed a contract for the following season while still fighting for the F2 title. He was glad he stayed in the series and won it. Bortoleto said Camara was not under pressure to perform at São Paulo to keep his F1 opportunity.
