Mercedes asked the FIA for a cost-cap allowance to raise pay for junior staff, Toto Wolff said; he argued that the cap suppresses salaries.

Mercedes asked the FIA for a cost-cap allowance to raise pay for junior staff, Toto Wolff said during the Free Practice 3 broadcast at the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix. He said the pitch “didn't score a lot of brownie points”.

Wolff said the extra allowance was for salaries, “not for more front wing”. He argued that the cost cap suppresses pay and said Mercedes wanted to pay junior personnel better.
