Alonso questioned the calendar’s efficiency over the Brazil-to-Europe-to-Las Vegas itinerary, while Lindblad said nine races in 11 weeks was a lot but that he enjoys racing.
At a press conference in Brazil, Fernando Alonso questioned the efficiency of Formula 1’s calendar. He pointed to the trip from Brazil back to Europe, with the series due in Las Vegas ten days later. He described that part of the season as a significant burden and said he did not think there was a solution at present.
F1’s calendar now has 24 races a year, compared with about 17 ten to 15 years ago.
Rookie Arvid Lindblad cited nine races in 11 weeks, including the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. Formula 2 had 14 races last year, he said, and this year’s schedule is more than he is used to. He called the stretch a lot, but added that he loves racing and enjoys being in the car, so it was okay for him.
