As Kimi Antonelli took his first F1 title in Mexico, Verstappen joked about the day after his own championship and explained why its media obligations mattered less than the dream of winning.

Max Verstappen joked that he was still drunk the day after winning his first Formula 1 title. He and Fernando Alonso were discussing the media obligations after a first championship; Verstappen said those duties were not enjoyable, but winning the title had always been his dream and mattered most.

The discussion followed Kimi Antonelli’s first title, clinched in Mexico. The 20-year-old Italian finished third in the race and had many media commitments in the aftermath.

Alonso laughed that he had to dig deep into his memory before handing the question to Verstappen. Verstappen said Antonelli would probably be an even bigger hero in Italy, but expected little to change because the young champion seemed normal and modest to him.

Alonso also contrasted 2005 with today. He thought drivers then had fewer content obligations and not the same team entourage around them. His recollection of the post-title routine was a press conference, a celebration at home and a visit to the factory to thank everyone.
