Cadillac will fully investigate what caused the front-left suspension failure that sent Valtteri Bottas into a barrier and ended his Mexico City Grand Prix on lap 46, team principal Marcin Budkowski said. He added that the team would work to prevent similar accidents.
Bottas was at top speed entering Turn 1 when the suspension collapsed as he hit the brakes, sending him sliding into the TecPro barrier. A red flag stopped the race while marshals repaired the barriers.
After the impact, Bottas stayed in his car to catch his breath, then went to the medical centre and was given the all-clear. At Cadillac’s post-race debrief, he said he was okay and thanked the medical team for checking him.
Other reliability failures during Cadillac’s maiden F1 campaign had been less dangerous: Bottas and team-mate Sergio Perez had been able to pull into the pit garage to retire or stop on track.
