Hamilton was told to stop after 13 laps of Friday’s second practice and said he hoped the Ferrari power-unit problem was not serious.
A Ferrari instruction cut Lewis Hamilton’s second practice in Mexico to 13 laps on Friday. He said the order surprised him because he had felt nothing unusual in the car; he was hoping the power-unit problem was not serious. Hamilton added that Ferrari was still investigating what was wrong.
Hamilton completed 24 laps in first practice, but part of that session was used for Ferrari’s rake-running programme. He said he had “only really had one session” of preparation.
Charles Leclerc set the fastest time in both Friday sessions. Hamilton still thought Ferrari was competitive and that its set-up had improved, but he had not completed the long runs: “I didn't get to do the long runs so I have no idea.”
