Rafael Camara’s planned 2027 F1 arrival has been brought forward to his home São Paulo Grand Prix. He wants to use teammate Ollie Bearman as a reference on his first F1 weekend with Haas.
Rafael Camara’s planned 2027 arrival in Formula 1 has been moved up to his home São Paulo Grand Prix. For his first race with Haas, the Brazilian wants to learn by watching teammate Ollie Bearman and trying to apply what he sees.
The call-up followed confirmation that Esteban Ocon would not compete for Haas for the rest of the 2026 season. Camara, 21, had been scheduled to make his FP1 debut for Ferrari at Interlagos; that outing would have been his first in a 2026 car. He had completed one TPC session for Haas and four for Ferrari’s works team.
Camara and Bearman are Ferrari Driver Academy colleagues, though Camara said they know each other only a little. They were in different junior categories and saw one another at Ferrari training camps; Bearman was, Camara thought, heading to F3 as Camara began F4.
Camara said Brazilian fan support grew as he moved through the junior categories, especially after joining F3, where he said drivers get more exposure. His first F1 race in front of the home crowd, he said, would be special. He plans to take the weekend “step by step” and try to give the fans a good one.
