After the Mexico City Grand Prix, Toto Wolff praised Kimi Antonelli as a model for junior drivers and some F1 peers, while criticizing unnamed drivers.
After the Mexico City Grand Prix, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff held Kimi Antonelli up as a role model for junior drivers and some of the other Formula 1 drivers.
Antonelli’s third place was enough to clinch the title with four races to spare, making him the youngest champion in F1 history. He has won nine races in his second F1 season; Mercedes promoted him in 2025 to replace Lewis Hamilton.
As the post-race media session was winding down, Wolff asked to add a final point. He said the selfish “win at all costs” model of a racing driver had had its day, and praised Antonelli’s humility, integrity, loyalty, respect and ability to be himself.
Wolff said Antonelli should also be an example for the “few entitled ones” in F1, the “endless moaners” on the radio and drivers who complain or crash. He did not name anyone. Wolff said Antonelli had shown a driver could beat everyone while still being a good person.
